Alex Burgin

Alex Burgin is the Senior Director of the Center for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT) and an Institute Scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. CDoT is a professional drug discovery organization that partners with Broad faculty to identify new therapeutic opportunities and discover impactful therapeutics. Burgin has over 30 years’ experience spanning both academia and the private sector. He completed his postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health and was enzymology group leader at Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals prior to joining the faculty of San Diego State University, where he ran an active research and training program. He then joined Emerald BioStructures where, as Chief Operating Officer and then as Chief Scientific Officer, he led multiple drug discovery projects. After leaving industry, Burgin served as the Senior Scientific Advisor to the Broad’s Chief Scientific Officer, and then served as Executive Director at the Institute for Protein Innovation before returning to the Broad Institute. Burgin holds an A.B. from Wabash College and a Ph.D. in genetics from Indiana University.
