Umbereen Nehal

MIT Sloan Fellow

Umbereen S. Nehal, MD, MPH, is an MIT Sloan Fellow MBA candidate, a former Medicaid medical director, and a former Chief Medical Officer for a 14-center community health organization in NYC. Dr. Nehal was the clinical lead for $1.8b in new funding for Medicaid reform for value-based care. She served as a national advisory panel co-chair for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) disparities research portfolio of >$300 million and is on the board of Physicians Weekly. As a community health leader, Dr. Nehal conducted an interfaith community health initiative on CPR training and cardiac health. She was recognized by President Obama for her leadership of a national healthcare insurance enrollment campaign for the White House. Dr. Nehal is published in the area of business models for AI in healthcare, quality improvement, trauma-informed refugee health, and medical education for patient-centered care. Dr. Nehal has co-authored national residency curriculum and designed two health policy elective courses. She advised the Connecticut Department of Public Health in the state-wide curriculum on the medical home. Dr. Nehal was visiting faculty for global health entrepreneurship in Pakistan. She currently advises payers on developing digital population health strategies globally to reduce disparities. Educated at Aga Khan University, Baylor College of Medicine, and Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Nehal has been named a “Top Voice” four times by LinkedIn and a “Top Voice” for digital health.
